Graphene-DNA biosensor selective, simple to create

Small cover imageScientists at the Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Princeton University have shown that single-stranded DNA can be promptly adsorbed onto functionalized graphene via hydrophobic and π-stacking interactions. The absorbed single-stranded DNA can then be protected from enzymatic attack, a characteristic that should make graphene-based DNA biosensors highly durable. (See the complete story here).

A description of this work provides the cover story for the June 6, 2010, issue of the journal Small.
